Meet Us

Murray Caplan, MD

For almost thirty years, Dr. Murray Caplan has been doing what he loves most in the world – caring for children’s health. A national expert and speaker in the field of ADHD and ADD, he works with these patients from pre-school age into adulthood, with special emphasis on teenagers and college students. Dr. Caplan believes strongly in providing each patient with the care that is most effective for each individual’s situation. In the case of ADHD, this may involve providing behavior management techniques, coaching in organizational skills, nutritional counseling, hypnotherapy, sleep management - and medication, if it is in the best interest of the patient.

Dr. Caplan is a board certified pediatrician, specializing in the field of developmental pediatrics. He trained at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Duke Hospital in North Carolina. He was also a physician with the Indian Health Service in Oklahoma, where he saw first-hand the health benefits of taking the time to educate his patients and their parents. Since that time, he has continued to learn how a customized integration of traditional and alternative medicine can have a positive impact on his patients’ conditions.

In 1978, Dr. Caplan founded Child First Pediatrics. He has been a constant in the lives of his patients and is now treating the children of some of those who first saw him in the late ‘70s. He is thrilled to be joined in the practice by Dr. Jason Kalan and Physician Assistants Meggan Macias and Tony Oakes.

In his spare time, Dr Caplan enjoys playing tennis and skiing. He and his wife Jill, a school counselor, are delighted to have recently had the opportunity to teach their two grandchildren how to ski on the bunny hill at Sol Vista.

Jason Kalan, MD

Born in New York and raised in Ohio, Dr. Kalan knew early on that he wanted to become a pediatrician. After receiving his undergraduate degree from the University of Cincinnati, he continued on at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine for his medical degree. He then moved to Dallas, Texas to complete his internship and residency at the University of Texas, Southwestern Dallas. He is board certified in Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Besides general pediatrics, Dr. Kalan enjoys practicing sports medicine and treating children with ADHD and other school-related issues. Joining Child First Pediatrics, in 2004, has given him the opportunity to become a national speaker on ADHD and to help develop one of the largest ADHD clinics in Colorado. “My goal is to help children learn the way they learn best through medical treatment and developing the organizational and study skills they will need to be successful in life.” He regularly attends ADHD and sports medicine seminars to keep current with advances in those areas.

During his free time, Dr. Kalan continues to work with children as a youth leader and Sunday School teacher at his church. He also participates in annual medical missions to Central America and Russia. He strives to lead by example through his interactions with children, parents and the community.
