Meet Us
For almost thirty years, Dr. Murray Caplan has been doing what he loves most in the world – caring for children’s health. A national expert and speaker in the field of ADHD and ADD, he works with these patients from pre-school age into adulthood, with special emphasis on teenagers and college students. Dr. Caplan believes strongly in providing each patient with the care that is most effective for each individual’s situation. In the case of ADHD, this may involve providing behavior management techniques, coaching in organizational skills, nutritional counseling, hypnotherapy, sleep management - and medication, if it is in the best interest of the patient.
Dr. Caplan is a board certified pediatrician, specializing in the field of developmental pediatrics. He trained at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Duke Hospital in North Carolina. He was also a physician with the Indian Health Service in Oklahoma, where he saw first-hand the health benefits of taking the time to educate his patients and their parents. Since that time, he has continued to learn how a customized integration of traditional and alternative medicine can have a positive impact on his patients’ conditions.
In 1978, Dr. Caplan founded Child First Pediatrics. He has been a constant in the lives of his patients and is now treating the children of some of those who first saw him in the late ‘70s. He is thrilled to be joined in the practice by Dr. Jill Mason and Physician Assistant Melissa Berghoff.
In his spare time, Dr Caplan enjoys playing tennis and skiing. He and his wife Jill, a school counselor, are delighted to have recently had the opportunity to teach their two grandchildren how to ski on the bunny hill at Sol Vista.
Dr. Mason was born and raised in Wichita, KS and attended college at Newman University where she majored in Chemistry. After college, she attended the University of Kansas School of Medicine where she also completed her pediatric residency. She practiced rural medicine in Hays, KS for 1 ½ years before relocating to Colorado.
Dr. Mason enjoys the continuity of care that private practice provides and the ability to foster long term relationships with parents and patients from birth thru college. Dr. Mason enjoys well child visits and being able to educate parents through "teachable moments" that often occur in the exam room. She also enjoys the many things that the patients teach her!
Dr. Mason and her husband, Steve, have a son, Samuel, who they welcomed into the world in November, 2008. Dr. Mason and her husband enjoy spending time with Sam and participating in the many outdoor activities that Colorado offers.
